Terms & conditions

Last updated October 25, 2026

These terms and conditions apply to your use of stl to step (convertstltostep.com), referred to here as “the site”. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. The service

The site is a free online tool that converts STL mesh files into STEP files. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser, on your own device. We may change, improve or remove features, or pause the site, at any time and without notice.

2. Free to use

The converter is free for personal, educational and commercial use. You don’t need an account, and we don’t limit the number of files you convert. The STEP files you create are yours to use however you like.

3. Your content

You keep all rights to the files you convert. Because conversion happens on your device, we never receive, store or claim any rights to your files. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to use, convert and share the models you open, including models made by others and licensed under terms such as Creative Commons.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

5. Intellectual property

The site’s name, design, text and code belong to stl to step or its licensors. Open-source components are used under their own licences. These terms don’t give you any rights to our trademarks or branding.

6. Accuracy of output

STL files store triangle meshes, so the STEP output is a faceted solid or surface model, not a parametric CAD model with true curves or design history. Results depend on the quality of the original mesh. Always check converted geometry, dimensions and units in your CAD software before using a file for manufacturing, engineering or any other critical purpose.

7. No warranty

The site and the files it produces are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t guarantee that the site will always be available, error-free or compatible with every file or CAD program.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, stl to step will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or the files it produces. This includes lost data, lost profits and manufacturing costs. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.

9. Links to other websites

The site may link to other websites. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or privacy practices.

10. Privacy

How we handle information is explained in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows the latest version. If you continue to use the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

12. Contact
